Erin Schneemann

Sempai Erin Schneemann, Sankyu, USJA

Sempai Erin Marie Schneemann started her Judo journey in 1996 at Post/Crew 1882 BSA Judo-Kai under the direction of Sensei Walter Ing and Sensei Clifford Wolff. She was an all around athlete during her high school days involved in Track, Volleyball, and Cheerleading. As an avid dancer, she was trained at Releve' Dance Centre, and she was even a junior instructor there.  A musician, she was a flautist who received several awards. Theater was also a big part of her school years and had many parts on stage and behind the scenes. She was quite involved as a mentor for the “HUGS” program, a peer leadership program.

Her Judo times were packed with local and state tournaments, Nassau PAL scrimmages, and tourments, the Nakabayashi Memorial tourments, Liberty bell, and many more. Often times she would take 2nd or 3rd place. She excelled in teaching and providing demonstrations to the younger students. In a summer Judo program with the inner city children she was an instructor under Sensei George Pasiuk. At the International YMCA Judo camp for several years she also became a junior counselor. There she enjoyed world class Judo instruction from many high-ranking Judo greats. She was tested for advancement by Olympian Celita Shultz, and promoted by Olympian George Harris. She progressed through the junior USJA ranks from May 1997, through December of 1998. Eventually she attainted the Sankyu Senior 3rd degree brown belt in June of 2002.   Erin left judo to attend college, but during her school breaks she would often return to play hard with other returning college students. Work then took a forefront and additional schooling in the Paralegal field. Currently she works locally as an administrative assistant. She has recently returned to Judo as a Sempai with Judo Dojo Yukidaruma.  She hopes to again try to return to competition. However, at this time NON-JUDO related orthopedic problem has kept her off the Tatami. She holds a background clearance in child protection and hopes to be trained in USJA coaching in the spring.
