Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
Celebrating 125 Years of God’s Faithfulness
1897-2022

In 2022, we will be celebrating our 125th anniversary as a congregation, having been in Sayville and on this plot of land for our entire history. It is truly a time to celebrate all that God has done and pray for his blessing upon as we carry on into the future. Many plans and opportunities have been set up for the celebratory year, and my hope is that you will be able to join us as often as possible.

The anniversary committee has chosen a theme for our celebration which will be Let Your Light Shine based upon John 8:12: Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Details about events that are planned are still being pulled together and will be released as we get closer to the various dates. However, please mark your calendars, and save the date for the following things coming up this year and next:

January 30, 2022

Sunday Brunch Fundraiser

Considering the current climate, the 125th Anniversary Committee has decided to postpone our brunch. The new date will be March 27, and details will come out about that as we get closer. The next event planned is our Family Bingo Night on February 26. Details on that will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

June 2022 Strawberry Festival Fundraiser
July 24, 2022 Community Service Project & Picnic
August 6, 2022 Treasure & Tag Sale Fundraiser
September 18, 2022 Grand Celebration: Anniversary Divine Service, Dinner,

November 26, 2022 March as a Congregation in Sayville Holiday Parade

Please note that all of the fundraisers serve a few purposes: to assist with the expenses of our anniversary events over the year and, hopefully, reduce the cost of the grand celebration in September of 2022. Additionally, the committee has selected to try and replace the carillon in our steeple (the bells that are used for tolling, and playing hymns at various times each day, which has not worked properly for a number of years). More information will be coming out about this in the near future.

We are finalizing the plans for a large banner to be strung up between the columns out in front of the church so that people are alerted to our celebration, and recognize us as a fixture in this community. All of this, and a number of other fun things are in the works, and we will announce those things as they come together. Again, please join us as much as possible. Spread the word. Be part of this great celebration as we rejoice in all that God has done and continues to do for us and through us into this community.
